The Body Shop: Facial Cleansing Polish

I am at home and I have internet, yeah! That means a new video.
This time, I talk about the Facial Cleansing Polish from The Body Shop, a "must have" for me.
It wakes me up, cheers me up, smoothes my skin and is a great exfoliater - win win!

Do you have a product where you simply know that you are going to buy it again and again and again?

Dialect Vlog

I don't have such a cute little addition like That Wife, but nevertheless I wanted to take part in the Dialect Vlog. I enjoy hearing all the different pronounciations! Here is the "non-native speaker"- dialect (yes, I am fully aware that such a thing does not exist... at least not only one form ;) )

These are the words/questions:
Aunt, Route, Wash, Oil, Theater, Iron, Salmon, Caramel, Fire, Water, Sure, Data, Ruin, Crayon, Toilet, New Orleans, Pecan, Both, Again, Probably, Spitting image, Alabama, Lawyer, Coupon, Mayonnaise, Syrup, Pajamas, Caught

* What is it called when you throw toilet paper on a house?
* What is the bug that when you touch it, it curls into a ball?
* What is the bubbly carbonated drink called?
* What do you call gym shoes?
* What do you say to address a group of people?
* What do you call the kind of spider that has an oval-shaped
* body and extremely long legs?
* What do you call your grandparents?
* What do you call the wheeled contraption in which you carry
* groceries at the supermarket?
* What do you call it when rain falls while the sun is shining?
* What is the thing you change the TV channel with?

Things that make me happy #1

After all your fantastic comments, here is the first thing that makes me happy.
Just a small, silly thing...

...
fun colored socks! Yeah!

I never had fun socks when I was a kid and only discovered how much I love them when I moved out(my mum said if she had knewn how happy that would have made me, I'd have had a whole drawer full of them!).

I don't see the point in spending a fortune on socks, so I only have a few, cheap pairs - striped, with toes (fun but uncomfortable!), Harry Potter, Snoopy, Hello Kitty, Christmas, Halloween...

Which side do you belong to? Only white tennis socks? Only black socks? A rainbow of colors?

PersonalDNA - Your true self revealed

Kimberly Michelle blogged about this new personality test, PersonalDNA.
If you have 10 Minutes to kill, take a turn and tell me your result!

I am an..

which means

  • Your imagination, self-reliance, openness to new things, and appreciation for utility combine to make you an INVENTOR.
  • You have the confidence to make your visions into reality, and you are willing to consider many alternatives to get that done.
  • The full spectrum of possibilities in the world intrigues you—you're not limited by pre-conceived notions of how things should be.
  • Problem-solving is a specialty of yours, owing to your persistence, curiosity, and understanding of how things work.
  • Your vision allows you to identify what's missing from a given situation, and your creativity allows you to fill in the gaps.
  • Your awareness of how things function gives you the ability to come up with new uses for common objects.
  • It is more interesting for you to pursue excitement than it is to get caught up in a routine.
  • Although understanding details is not difficult for you, you specialize in seeing the bigger picture and don't get caught up in specifics.
  • You tend to more proactive than reactive—you don't just wait for things to come to you.
  • You prefer to have time to plan for things, feeling better with a schedule than with keeping plans up in the air until the last minute.
  • Being social, empathic, and understanding makes you ADVOCATING.
  • Some people find being around others exhausting—but not you! You are energized by spending time with friends, and you are good at meeting new people.
  • One of the reasons you enjoy conversation as much as you do is that you often learn about yourself while talking things out with a friend; you realize things about your own beliefs while discussing them with others.
  • You have insight into what others are thinking and feeling. This ability allows you to be happy for others, and to commiserate when something has gone wrong for them.
  • You are highly compassionate, and being conscious of how things affect those close to you leaves you cautious about trusting others too hastily.
  • Despite these reservations, you are open-minded when it comes to your worldview; you don't look to impose your ways on others.
  • Your sensitivity towards others' plights contributes to an understanding—both intellectual and emotional—of many different perspectives.
  • As someone who understands the complexities of the world around you, you are reluctant to pass judgments.
I am not really sure how acurate this description is, sadly...
So, what about you?

Food by US-State

Jenna tweeted about this interesting food map of the USA

funny food photos - Food Map
see more My Food Looks Funny

What do you think about the representation of your state (my US readers) or the states you have visited, read about, seen on tv etc (all my readers)?

Just a few of my thoughts:
California: I was thinking citrus fruits, but I guess grapes is acurate, giving the wine production over there
Virginia: Ham - YES! That was exactly what my students recommended on our field trip, and it was delicious. Furthermore, peanuts..
New York: Pizza - oh yes, my favourite one was at Big Nick`s, 2175 Broadway (77th and Broadway). Also Burgers (also at Big Nick's!). And Hot dogs. And tons of coffee.
Illinois: Chicago-style Pizzy - sure thing.
Wisconsin: Cheese - yes, I visited a lot of dairy farms there. Good choice.
Michigan: can't really remember anything specific

What is Knoeplah btw?

New year, better year?

2010 was a very difficult year for me.

I got sick, and only after weeks and weeks of weird, wrong treatments ("why don't you just take these antibiotics for the next 8 weeks, it could be that one of the side effects will eventually help you" Ehm... nooo, thank you? I prefer not stuffing my body with AB if you are not even sure it helps, thanks.) I got a diagnosis.
I have an autoimmune disease, which means that I will have to take medication for the rest of my live and also that I have to find a good doctor wherever I move to but I think this is all manageable. I am just happy I feel better now.

Following the diagnosis, I had a difficult time accepting it and dealing with it. Unfortunately, that led to a fallout with some people around me.

At the same time, my grandmother got really sick. When I went to see her, I did not even recognize her at the first glance, she looked so different.

A few weeks later, my grandmother died.

(That's us at christmas 2007)

In fall, my father got very sick. He was operated, but after one week of getting worse instead of better they had to do an emergency operation (that was the first time in my life that I just grabbed my coat and purse, called for a taxi, bribed the taxi driver and jumped into the next train to my hometown without thinking, luggage, preparation, ticket... luckily the conductor asked no questions and just sold me a ticket on board without an extra fee). My father had to stay 2 more weeks at the intensive care unit, a terrible time for him. Afterwards, his treatments continued till after christmas. He is on a good way now, but oh so fragile, exhausted and tiny because he lost more than 10% of his body weight and is still not gaining it back.

Shortly before christmas, my mom, who was already totally stressed and worried about my dad, got a bad diagnosis herself, so now she is sick as well. She just started her treatment which will continue way into 2011 and she is having a very difficult time. She lost a lot of weigth as well (I will soon be the fatty of the family if this trend continues!). Of course you can imagine that we had a very different and difficult christmas this year.

I really hope both of them get well soon and get their strength back. Their favourite holiday (easter at the lake Garda, Italy) had to be cancelled due to my mother's illness :(
I'll keep my fingers crossed for their second favourite time: 2 summer weeks at the seaside in the Netherlands!

Please keep my family in your thoughts and prayers. After 2010, I think we earned the right to a more peaceful, healthy 2011, don't you think?

I can only wish all the best for you and all of your loved ones. After you have read this, go and give them an extra hug, ok?

Yours,
Lizzy
